We all have our favorite colors! Let’s explore color relationships, temperatures, tints and tones. We will learn how to mix and match colors and experiment with new painting techniques each week using acrylic paints, block printing inks and watercolors. Our artwork will range from abstract collages to landscapes and portraits. Do you enjoy talking to fairy dragons and exploring creepy swamps? Maybe you prefer exploring a mountain with a mad mage inside. Grab some dice, your imagination and a sense of humor because this is the game for you. For the next ten weeks we will become a party that will seek out adventure, treasure and friends. No experience necessary, you can learn as you go. Create a character and get ready to have an amazing time.

In this fun and challenging course, students will develop and improve their creative writing skills through the lens of digital game design. No programming experience is required. Using Twine, an open-source platform, students will write multi-pathway choose your own adventure stories, learn to program through Twine and then develop digital artwork to enhance their stories.  The class will cover creative writing, Twine 2.0 (light programming), and digital art.


Central Rock Gym

ArtReach offers a wide range of hands-on project-based classes designed to provide challenging education through meaningful projects. At ArtReach we like to go deep and allow time to sink into our topics.  Each class is taught by a professional working in their field, who is passionate, creative and not afraid to lean into students' passion and go off-book. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are geared toward ages 9-12.  Students can begin their day challenging their imagination (and math skills) with D and D, or develop their creative writing and game design skills then dive into art in the afternoon or end their day rock climbing with our partners at Central Rock Gym. In this five-week introductory textiles workshop, students will learn basic weaving techniques using a frame loom. We’ll explore tapestry styles from around the world and then dive into designing and creating our own tapestry samplers.  Students will have the chance to explore non-traditional materials and combine patterns and textiles in unique ways.

Katy Riley is a multidisciplinary artist who focuses on using traditional craft techniques to create contemporary imagery. She likes to have fun creating iconography of everyday objects and scenes with fine craft skills.

Our partners at CRG Worcester are giving a warm welcome to ArtReach Homeschoolers!  Trained ArtReach staff, teen interns and the staff at CRG will lead and support students in an active fitness experience and provide the opportunity for kids to develop basic climbing skills and techniques through bouldering, top-roping, belaying, creative challenges and skill-building activities. In addition to rock climbing, ArtReach will have the use of the gym for organized games. 


This ten-week program runs from February 1st through April 12th and is designed for students ages 9-12.  A non-refundable deposit of $75 holds your spot and goes toward your tuition of $200.  Tuition includes all gear rentals, safety training and ten weeks of climbing.

This challenging course will bring the fascinating story of the ancient world to vivid life. By using engaging hands-on projects we will deepen our understanding of this time by bringing the stories of the people and places alive. Students will weave together strands from geography, mythology, art, music, poetry, engineering, dance and drama to understand the meaning and importance of this time period. This semester will include the study of primary source material and other important literary works of the time. Maps, timelines and outlines are incorporated into students’ weekly work and students are expected to perform research and write reports. By the end of this dynamic course, students will be able to draw connections from our readings, lectures and projects to the continuing story of our world. Optional field trips to the Worcester Art Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts are offered during the semester (families welcome!).

Color Me Happy

Light and shadows visually define objects creating the illusion of a third dimension but they also add drama, mood and capture the effects of movement and sunlight. Through silhouette paintings, shadow puppetry and the use of masking fluid in watercolors, we will use light and shadow to create dramatic works of art.

Week 1: Shading Geometric Forms and Drawing from Ansel Adams Photographs (white colored pencils or pastels on black paper)
Week 2: Silhouette Painting on Canvas with Sunset Backgrounds
Week 3: Masking Fluid in Watercolors
Week 4: Paint into Previous Watercolors
Week 5: Create Shadow Puppets (and experiment with movement behind a shadow stage)
